NCTE re introduce 1 Year B.Ed./M.Ed. Program 2026-27: National Council for Teacher Education -NCTE has announced to Start NCTE 1 Year B.Ed./M.Ed. Program 2026-27. Now it will be easier to become a teacher for graduates who have certain eligibility criteria. Currently institutes are offering 2 year B.Ed program across the country, now students are able to get admission in 1 year B.Ed course after completing the graduation. NCTE Recently conducted a meeting to discuss the revision in B.Ed program and M.Ed program. The chairman of NCTE Pankaj Arora informed about the Implementation of the 1 year B.Ed program. However it is helpful for students who want to become a teacher earlier after completing the graduation but is not a new program as 1 year B.Ed and M.Ed program was already in circulation in 2014 and after that the authority stopped 1 year B.Ed course and allow only to complete two year B.Ed. 

Who can get admission in NCTE 1 Year B.Ed./M.Ed. Program 2026-27?

The one year B.Ed program has not been started but is approved in the NCTE meetings and is scheduled to start in the session of 2026-27. The program is prepared for candidates who have completed four year graduation program from any recognised University. There are many integrated B.Ed programs of 4 year running in different disciplines so if you complete the four year graduation then you can apply in B.Ed program of duration.

Apart from this individuals who complete three year graduation and after that complete 2 year Masters program are also eligible to get admission in 1 year B.Ed course. However the program is set to the graduates but 3 year graduates are not able to get admission in 1 year B.Ed and have to get admission in 2 year B.Ed if they want to become a teacher in India.

Revising 1 year B.Ed after 10 years 

The one year B.Ed program is not new in India has it was already in circulation till 2014. After that the ministry of human resource and development- HMRD which is now known as ministry of education have implemented the teacher eligibility criteria in 2015 where they focused on the revision in the B.Ed Syllabus and add other discipline including yoga in the B.Ed course and after that include the internship of minimum 20 weeks during the B.Ed course.

So these implementation revised the duration of the course and converted one year B.Ed into 2 year B.Ed program. But now the government is implementing provisions of national education policy and again starting one year B.Ed and M.Ed program from the session of 2026-27.

UGC is implementing national education policy

University Grant Commission and educational institutions in the country are implementing NEP 2020. NCERT is currently revising the syllabus of the school education from class 1 to class 12 and UGC is implementing the changes for higher education in Universities and institutes across the country. All the colleges affiliated with UGC and offering the teaching Education courses including B.Ed will now start to provide one year B.Ed and M.Ed program after 2026 and students can get admission in these courses to save their one year.

It will save one year of the student

The one year B.Ed and M.Ed program will save one year of the individuals who complete four year graduation or 3 year graduation+ 2 year Masters from any recognised University. It will allow them to complete the B.Ed course earlier and after it can apply for the teaching recruitment opportunities in India and across the world. However the program is helping students to save their one year but it will only be available in physical mode where candidates have to take regular classes throughout the year to complete their course. 

Apart from this individuals who are already working in any organisation or teaching in schools and cannot take regular classes will have to get admission in 2 year B.Ed program accordingly as it is offering in regular as well as distance mode.

Courses to become teacher in India

Currently B.Ed is most popular degree in India to become a teacher, but it is not only a degree which is offering by NCTE. After the judgement of Supreme Court of India, B.Ed students cannot apply in primary teaching opportunities in India so individuals who want to become a primary teacher are required to complete diploma in elementary education of 2 years.

However As per the new education policy and new courses of teaching, individuals who want to become a teacher after 12th class can directly get admission in ITEP ( integrated teacher education program) It is a four year graduation+ B.Ed program which is offering by most of the colleges in India. The program was firstly started as a pilot project but now is offering in all the colleges where candidates and get admission in 4 year BA+ B.Ed of B.Com+B.Ed or B.Sc+B.Ed. 

Apart from this individuals who want to opt for the teaching profession after 3 year graduation will have option to complete 2 year B.Ed from any recognised university in India. Candidates who have completed four year graduation or completed graduation of 3 year or 4 with 2 year Masters course will now be able to get admission in 1 year B.Ed program after the session of 2026-27.
