Department of Sports And Youth Affairs: Objectives and Function

• To promote growth of sports within the state through training programs.
• To engage youth to participate in sports and recreation.
• It aims to foster sports community recognition and a sense of achievement among the participants.
• It also monitors the operations of District Sports Offices and various sports association.

Update regarding application invited for Meghalaya Sports Scholarship 2025

In the recent press release by the Govt. of Meghalaya Applications are invited by the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs of the Govt. of Meghalaya to give Scholarship to the eligible Athletes. This initiative was taken by CM Cornad Sangma. Previous year in the month of March this scheme was inaugurated by the Bollywood star Jhon Abraham.

To felicitate the talented sports person, in acknowledgment the sports department has initiated the Meghalaya Sports Scholarship Scheme, according to which the athletes will get monthly financial support. The scholarship amounts range from Rs. 6000 to Rs. 8000, depending upon the medals earned in various categories and competitions. By implementing this initiative the government has shown its commitment towards the sports personalities and has also shown a respect and helping hand in nurturing a culture of excellence in athletics.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressed his best possible way of belief on the raw talents by fostering this scheme that would inspire mass youth to pursue their ambitions in sports, thereby bringing recognition to both the state and the nation.

The Department of Sports & Youth Affairs of the Government of Meghalaya is currently accepting applications from those athletes who have achieved magnificent success for the State or who has brought glory for the country as well as state in various tournaments at the Regional, National, and International levels during the 2024-2025 period.

• This scholarship will provide to those athletes who have not previously submitted applications for the years 2022-2024.
• Eligible athletes are who have achieved magnificent success for the State or who has brought glory for the country as well as state in various tournaments at the Regional, National, and International levels during the 2024-2025 period.
